Playtime Festival

6th edition, 14–28 January 2024 

Our festival of degree programmes, which we combine with additional curated selections, showcases the full breadth of music at HKB in over 20 events. The Erlacherhof Bern (seat of Bern’s city government), the cathedral and the REX cinema in Bern are new festival venues this year.

Drop by sometime; all concerts are free of charge.  

Music and Movement 

Our Music and Movement – Eurhythmics and Opera divisions are based in Biel/Bienne, on the language border between German and French. Students of Eurhythmics have an opportunity unique anywhere in Switzerland to choose between Performance und Dance in Context.

Xavier Dayer appointed director of the Department of Music at Zurich University of the Arts

Our esteemed colleague Xavier, a composer and lecturer and head of the Masters in Composition programme for many years, will be leaving us next year to join Zurich University of the Arts, where he will head the music department. We would like to extend our congratulations! Although we are reluctant to see him go, we are convinced that his years of teaching and working in Bern have ideally equipped him for his new post.

«Halt auf Verlangen» at the Berner Generationenhaus 

An exciting programme put together by the violin classes taught by Corina Belcea and David Eggert’s cello students will conclude the Halt auf Verlangen series before it resumes in March. In the JazzSpot: Eddy Sonnenschein (drums) & Loïc Baillod (double bass).

«Horn Days» at Playtime 2024 

A special format at this year’s Playtime festival – the Horn Days on Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 January – is sure to appeal to amateurs and students alike, as well as lovers of the instrument. Look forward to various workshops and concerts, including a world premiere by Hassan Taha.
