January 2025

Dear music lovers

Playtime 2025 has been in full swing for a good week now with opera sketches, ensemble concerts, installations, world premieres and much more. The second part of the festival features a lot of jazz, contributions from the sound arts and eurythmics and, finally, on 25 January, all 12 piano sonatas by Alexander Scriabin in a marathon at the Bern Conservatory.

Best regards - the HKB Music team

Liquid Room

Four works will be presented in seamless transition - a panorama of fine sounds and improvisation. Including an ensemble under the direction of Biliana Voutchkova and a guitar quartet by composer Irene Galindo Quero, our new head of the composition programme.

Sat, 18.1.2025, 7 pm - Yehudi Menuhin Forum, Bern

À la pièce - Individual pieces in motion

The solo pieces performed by third-year Bachelor's and Master's students are the result of interdisciplinary collaboration. They researched, composed and choreographed together with musicians from other disciplines in the department - always in search of a dialogue between music and dance.

Fri/Sat, 24/25 Jan, 7 pm - Volkshaus Biel

Wind-dynamic organ

Almost 20 years ago, the HKB caused quite a stir with an organ that is operated by variable wind pressure and thus offers completely new sonic possibilities. The large model of this organ has long been on display in Bern Minster. We are delighted that the Archipel Festival in Geneva is dedicating a major programme item to the mobile model of the organ in April and that the composers Simone Keller and Margrit Schenker will be creating new works.

4-13 April 2025, Geneva
